To Derek With Loads of Love From Grandma

Grandma's Favorite Little Guy
The precious little boy was born on April 20, 1992 in Soldotna, Alaska.  His Mom's name is Christine and his Dad's name is Rick.  His Mom and Dad decided to name him Derek.

Grandma met him when he was three months old.  Grandma wanted to hold him all day long and rock him all night long.  Grandma knew he was the most precious little guy she had seen in many, many, many years.

Grandma spent as much time with Derek as possible from the first time she saw him.  He was always on her mind ever since the day she met him.  Grandma watched Derek grow and change so much everytime she saw him.  He was such a happy, content baby who always brightened up Grandma's days.

No matter where Grandma happened to be her thoughts wandered back to that little guy who had captured her heart the day she met him.  She would remember how he smiled, laughed, ate, wiggled his nose, sneezed, blinked his eyes, slept, how he would coo and hum, how his big beautiful dark eyes teared up, how he learned to crawl, walk, wink, played and how he looked with curiosity at all his surroundings.

Grandma can't believe how fast the years have gone by and how fast Derek has grown from a little guy to a little "big guy" in no time at all.  Grandma talked to Derek about why he was growing so fast. Derek told Grandma, "Grandma that is what kids are supposed to do."

Derek is now almost 9 years old and growing everyday and continues to be one of his Grandma's greatest gifts from Heaven.  Yes, indeed as Grandma always asks Derek.   "Who is the luckiest Grandma in the whole wide world?"  "You are Grandma."  "Why am I the luckiest Grandma in the whole wide world?"  "Cause you have me."  Does he really have any idea how true those words are?

Derek and Grandma will continue to enjoy each other when we are together, over the phone, and by e-mail.  Grandma also uses "snail mail" to include a favorite seaweed snack of Derek's in with a letter.

Grandma wants to enjoy Derek as much as possible while he is growing up.  This little guy is growing up way too fast for Grandma.  Grandma knows too soon his voice will deepen and he'll start growing a mustache and then he will say, "Hey, Grandma, can I take your  truck to town?"
Grandma will know those days playing in the mud, blowing bubbles, flying a kite, hunting for golf balls, paddling a canoe on a lake, reading and drawing together and camping out in the living room will be gone forever.

Until that time however, we have so many things we will explore, share and enjoy together.
Derek's Info
Derek is a boy who enjoys so many things.  Derek loves school and is a good student.  He enjoys playing all sorts of games, riding his bicycle and motorcycle, hitting golf balls, watching Disney movies and spending time in a canoe on a favorite quiet lake.

Grandma tells Derek he is a pleasure to be around cause he enjoys so many things and is so excited to try out new ones too.
Derek's and Grandma's Favorites to Do Together
Some favorite things to do are: Reading story books and poems to each other, drawing pictures, blowing bubbles, playing in the wet beach clay, beach combing and hunting for agates, paddling a green canoe on a lake, going on almost daily picnics, hunting for "dinosaur eggs" (golf balls), making gooey gunk, playing by Grandma's creek, riding the golf cart in the middle of the night, eating blue corn chips with salsa (mild only-please), picking blue berries and cranberries in the fall, gardening in Grandma's yard, camping out in the living room, singing favorite songs and flying a kite on a brisk day.
Grandma Loves Derek So Much
Grandma constantly tells Derek how much she loves him.  She hopes he will always cherish those words.  She always tells Derek she doesn't love him just a hundred, nor a thousand, nor a million, nor a billion, nor a trillion, but loves him pickledillions and pickledillions.  Derek knows that is so much that it can't even be counted or measured.
When Derek Grows Up
When Derek grows up he might be a fireman, policeman, doctor, lawyer, business man, teacher, baseball player, computer programer, mechanic, postman, carpenter, plumber, pilot, truck driver, farmer, animal trainer, glass blower, clown, electrician, dentist, or he could grow up to be the President.

Whatever Derek wants to be he will be able to be once he makes up his mind.  Derek is a really special little boy.

Grandma says no matter what Derek wants to be as long as he is kind, gentle, hard working and happy, his Grandma will be so very proud of him.

Some Funny Things Derek and Grandma Have Done
Derek and Grandma were exploring Grandma's creek bottom and both fell and sank in the mud and filled up their brand new rubber boots.

Derek and Grandma were drinking thick yummy green drinks and Derek ended up with a big green mustache.

Derek and Grandma were paddling the canoe on Coho Lake when Grandma jumped to get to shore and sank in the mud up to her knees.  Derek said, "Way to go Grandma!"

One day at the grocery store Derek had Grandma sit on the bottom of the grocery cart and he tried to push her around.  Grandma thought no one was watching but a man was laughing when he saw Derek trying to push his squished Grandma around in the grocery cart.

Derek and Grandma were playing with the water squirters and Derek got Grandma all wet cause she laughed and laughed and laughed so much he didn't know she wanted him to stop spraying her.
